Campaign to promote the spirit of Tatamagouche has global potential

TATAMAGOUCHE – Residents of Tatamagouche want to share the spirit of their rural village with as many people around the globe as possible.

The North Shore Community Development Association has launched a campaign encouraging residents to send official Tatamagouche Spirit T-shirts to friends and family all over the world.

The T-shirt recipients will be asked to photograph themselves near a sign showing where they are located then send the image back to the village to make a collage visually demonstrating how the small rural community has worldwide links to people and places. “There are people all over the world connected to Tatamagouche and we want to show that,” said association spokeswoman Linda Byers. “It would be nice to see as many as possible.”

On Jan. 8, more than 40 people attended a meeting to decide if there was enough interest from the community to enter the Communities in Bloom contest at a national level, having achieved the highest provincial score last year.

Byers said the group wholeheartedly supported the national entry and plans to raise the village’s participation were put into motion, including the T-shirt campaign. “In celebration of going national and as a fundraiser for that , and in recognition of Tatamagouche’s participation in The Week the Women Went television series, we wanted to let people across the world show their connection with Tatamagouche,” she said.

The T-shirts cost $10 each and are available at the association office in the North Shore Business Centre on Main Street in Tatamagouche from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday or by calling Byers at 657-3407.
